Benjamin Rosenberg, D.D.S., recently pleaded guilty to $3,853,931 in fraudulent insurance claims which he committed from his Los Angeles dentistry office. As reported by LawFuel, the fraudulent claims netted Rosenberg nearly half a million dollars in payment from insurers. Rosenberg was caught in an investigation by the FBI. After his guilty plea, he faces sentencing in May.
Healthcare Fraud in the United States
Rosenberg admitted to filing false insurance claims with eight major insurance companies for crowns and fillings which he never supplied to patients. He was caught by the same part of the FBI which leads the Medicare Fraud Strike Force, a joint operation between the Department of Justice and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The expansive Medicare Fraud Strike Force has indicted almost 4,000 defendants since 2007 for fraudulent Medicare charges amounting to over $14 billion.
